Windows Time Zones (too many cities)

does anyone know how to get rid of all the city names behind the local time
zone. it seems to confuse some of my co-workers (i know :-) when they see
this in a outlook calendar entry – when i send them a meeting/calendar
event:

Zeit: Dienstag, 6. Februar 2001 15:30-19:30 (GMT+01:00) Berlin, Bern,
Brüssel, Rom, Stockholm, Wien.

Just Berlin would be fine, no Bern, Brüssels, Rom and so on. I know the
information comes from the windows clock where you can set the time zone…
but all the cities are in there and i can’t delet them.

anybody?? thankx, martin, germany.

What is DMI Pool Data and

Can someone tell me what is DMI Pool Data, and why a system would hang while
trying to verify dmi pool data?

On win98, I swapped out an ide hardrive for a scsi with controller.  After
making changes in the bios to reflect this I also ran the auto-configure
program for scsi.  all went well in boot up afterwards until the verifying
dmi pool data process.  In an effort to determine if this was a scsi issue
or not, I re-swapped out the scsi and installed the ide drive, changed bios
settings, and continue to have the system hang at this same process!  Can
anyone lend any comments, ideas, suggestions?

thanks!

Startup lag in WinME

Hi.

I just installed WinME, and it all seemed fine for a while – until i started
getting a 60+ second lag at startup. At the point when windows seems
finished loading, when I doubleclick a shortcut to start a program, nothing
happens. So I try a few other apps, still nothing. I press ctr+alt+del, and
see them all running. I wait for about a minute, then the dam breaks and
they all start at the same time.

I’ve checked out my bootlog.txt with Bootlog Analyzer, and this line shows
up when I filter for delays:

16:38:23   67.72  Enumerated Standard diskettkontroller (BIOS\*PNP0700\0D)

(From the Norwegian ME version, it means standard disk controller, but you
probably figured :) )

As you can see, I get a 67 second delay on some operation concerning the
disk controller, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what’s causing
this delay. I’ve tried removing the controller drivers and have windows
reinstall them at startup, without result.

Can anyone tell me what this is about?

Everything else in my system works absolutely fine, so I don’t want to have
to reinstall windows without knowing that is the _only_ solution. (Btw, I
know that some apps cause conflicts in ME and I haven’t installed any of
them.)

My system:
Intel PII 400 Mhz
256 MB ram
DFI motherboard w/ Intel 440 BX/ZX chipset
NVidia Riva TNT2 Pro AGP video adapter

If you can help me, reply to group and cc me please.

Thanks a lot,

Beeping on startup & unwanted "Rename" & "Find" messages

My Toshiba 205CDS beeps incessantly at startup which slows down bootup
process. It sounds like a morse code transmission.  By hitting the
spacebar, I can get it to quit and it boots much faster.  I was also
getting an orange on light that came on right after turning on (from
green) and stayed on until just before shut down.  I downloaded an upgrade
from MS Windows that corrected the later problem.

I am also getting the screens "Find" and "Rename" that suddenly appear
when I am in Outlook Express and also in Wordperfect 8.  Sometimes I can
get the Find to close but the Rename stays eventho’ I X it out or try to
cancel.

I would appreciate any help that you might be able to give.  Thanks in
advance for your help.

have any open programs running at shutdown (other than what be running in
the background).

I would appreciate any help that you might be able to give.  Thanks in

Power loss effects to Windows OS?

I am working on an autonomous stand alone computer system that will regulary
be subjected to a complete power loss with no UPS backup.  UPS is not an
option for this application due to numerous constraints.  Does Microsoft
make a product that can regularly be "improperly" shut down, and then when
power to the system returns, reliably reboot autonomously?

I am aware that some versions of Windows keep key system files open while
Windows is in active session, and that an improper shutdown could prevent
Windows from properly closeing the files or even worse, corrupt these key
files thereby preventing a safe reliable reboot (when power is restored).

Any experts in the area?  Can anyone recommend any solutions?  Is their a
"safer" mode for some version of Windows (other than Windows 3.1) that can
reasonably garuntee reliability to reboot?  Anybody kow of third party
software that deals specifically with these improper shutdowns caused by
regularly, mostly unknown, power shutdowns?  I am not too familiar with
backup applications; does anyone know if these can be made to operate
autonomously in case of a catastrophic file corruption to Windows?

I appreciate any help at all.

you can reply to roberto.s.barr…@boeing.com if you like.

Thanks,

Bobby

MY DOCUMENTS not visible

When i use the file dialog boxes in apps (eg open file dialog box in word)
all my folders are listed except for the "My Documents" folder. I have to
type in My Documents to get it to go to that folder and then select the file
i want.
Is there a way to make it visible again?
Does it have something to do with the registry?
Cheers
