PostScript Level 2 for Win31

Does anyone know of a Postscript Level 2 driver for Win 3.1?
PS Level 2 printers are supported by Windows, it does not take advantage of
the Level 2 features, such as (especially for my case) image compression.

I have contacted RealTech and HP, who both say that the drivers would have to
be supplied by Microsoft.

Microsoft says they are working on it, but it’s some months away.

Adobe says they don’t do the driver, but they might in the future.

So anyway, does anyone know of a vendor who has PS Level 2 drivers?

Please email to below.
Thanks in advance

WinQVTNet 2.6 and TCP window size…

My next question has to do with the TCP window size parameter in WinQVTNet.
If I understand it correctly, it is meant to allow transmission of multiple
packets with out acknowlegements (well enough packets to fill the TCP window).
Watching the modem activity on a PC running WinQVTNet 2.6 over SLIP8250 of a
ftp yields much different light activity than with a Mac running MAC slip
with an ftp.

The behavior of the PC is that a packet comes across (receive light on for
a second or so), goes out, followed by a short pause where the ack goes back
over the line, then it receives again.  On the MAC, the receive light runs
pretty much continuously with the transmit flashing every second or so.
It appears that the packets coming into the machine keep coming, not waiting
for acknowlegement, and matches up the acks as they come in.

Does any of this agree with anyones sense of reality?  Both the PC and MAC are
similarly equiped modem wise.  We are dialing into a NetBlazer which supports
SLIP/CSLIP etc.  The MAC is using CSLIP, but it does not seem that would
affect things that much.  I am seeing OVER a factor of two difference in
ftp throughput between the PC and MAC.

My MTU is 1000, my MSS is 980 as suggested by Joe D.

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated…

WANTED: Source for (.WPG) WordPerfect Graphics Files

Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody knew of a FTP SITE or any other source for
graphics files for WordPerfect (for Windows v5.1).

Or would it be easier to make my own (intricate) graphics designs??

I wanted to use one in a newsletter!

Thanks

Win 3.1 acting like a Mac?

I told about a Compaq running windows 3.1 that was set up to make noises just
like a mac would, but the user of that PC had no idea how it was made to do
that. Is there something in the PIF editor that can be made to associate a
sound with an icon, or is it a 3rd party program that’s not part of windows?
If anyone knows athing about this I’d appreciate any help on how to duplicate
it.

PC-NFS 4.0a – Win 3.1 – local print problem?

  Seem to remember just a  bit ago someone had  a problem using Win  3.1
and PCNFS 4, where they couldn’t print to a local printer on lpt1:,  but
could print to a remote printer fine.  Does this ring a bell to any one?

  Anyway, we have  that problem currently  with a local  HP laser.   Any
solutions?   Thanks

Performance in Win NT

It seems that there has been lots of hoopla over ’32 bit’ operating systems
and their inherant advantages over ’16 bit’ operating systems.  Certainly
things like flat memory management is a good idea.

OS/2 has demonstrated that (after you get the 8+ MB of memory) by using
various 32 bit device drivers, you can gain a 10%-20% speed increase in
operating speed (as quoted from PC Magazine, a magazine I trust for their
benchmarks, even if that’s ALL I trust them for).

Granted, Windows NT provides many more services to the user than Windows 3.1
and this is a good reason for the 12+ MB memory requirements, but are we
going to see a general increase or decrease in operational speed due to
switching to a Politically Correct sounding OS?

As well, how will the efficiency of processes compare.  Theoretically, each
process will end up taking more memory due to the non-sharing, protected
method of operation.  Will we end up like OS/2 where you have protected
Windows programs but they each take 2 MB of memory overhead before the app
even starts allocating memory?

So, I guess my root question is, why is there such a great noise about 32
bit if when realized it really only nets a performance improvement of less
than one minor hardware improvement?  Now that Windows is going NT, is the
difference really in the 32 bits, or is it in the accompanying extra system
services that NT will bring (and MS is now definately dropping from Dos/Win
as noted in PC Week).

Overflow error on wintach?

I just recently bought at 486-33, and downloaded a windows benchmarking
program from a local BBS. The program, WinTach, is a benchmarking program
written by TI. Its interesting in that it attempts to give a real world
usage benchmark by simulating a word processor, a spreadsheet, and a
paint program.

The only problem, though, is that on my machine WinTach dies with an
"Divide by zero or overflow error" in the word processing module. The
spreadsheet and paint benchmaking units work fine.

Has anyone else come accross this problem, or have a solution?
I’m using Windows 3.1, and running with the ET4000Turbo driver
(800x600x256).

Windows MetaFiles and word for Windows

I developp an application with QuickC for windows, and my application
creates Windows Metafile. Indeed, i thought it was the best way to import
graphics in word for windows. In fact, word for windows does not read
windows metafiles, it reads Aldus Metafile. The difference between Aldus
metafile and the real windows metafile is that in Aldus MetaFile, you have
a 22 bytes header of the following structure :

typedef struct {
DWORD                                   key;
HANDLE                          hmf;
RECT                                            bbox;
WORD                                            inch;
DWORD                                   reserved;
WORD                                            chechsum;

} APMFILEHEADER;

So, my problem is that i don’t know how to fill this header up, and
Microsoft France was not able (i thought they were the first !! ) to
answer me, in order to make my metafiles readable by Word for windows.

Please send me some code or hints to do that .

                                                        thanks
